Music Now and Then

The blues blossomed in the 1930s and spawned the roots rock and roll and practically every type of music in American during the decades following. In recent years, blues has been making a comeback in popular music as artists are taking the musical styles that were being created and perfected in the 30s and reinventing them for themselves. Take a listen to a classic Robert Johnson song from the 30s and compare it to a more modern take on the blues by The Black Keys.

Oh baby don't you want to go back to the land of California to my sweet home Chicago?

Well I hate to leave you, hate to put you down, but the way you love, Darling, oh I'm Brooklyn bound.

  1. I like the first one better...

The second is defiantly more gritty, the first more smooth... and higher pitched... and much calmer.

I think that our culture needs a lot more "stimulation" to get a rise out of us. We are very de-sensitized which makes soft music less appealing. Maybe

  2. It sounds like almost the same song. Aside from the obvious ones, I think music from the 1930's has deeply influenced our music more than we could ever know.
