Dr. Seuss! ...Said the Moose?

Dr. Seuss, real name Theodor Seuss Geisel, was an Oxford graduate and a native to Springfield, MA. Born to German immigrants, Geisels grandmother would sooth him to sleep with rhymes and nonsense sayings, giving him a love for wordplay at an early age. He was actually an employee of Standard Oil, and wrote for political magazines for years before working as a cartoonist, editor, and eventually children author and illustrator. The 1930's were filled with many famous, fantastic childrens books like Madeline, Curious George, and Babar.

  1. Did he actually earn a degree to practice medicine or did he just choose that title to sound fancier? Also does his ability to rhyme have anything to do with him being a doctor?

  2. I was knee deep in these books when I was younger. I'm curious, did Dr. Seuss have his hand in all the children's books in the 1930's, or just the one's bearing his name?

  3. That's funny that my favorite children's books were written during that time. It would be interesting to contrast his political writings with the messages in his books that are often used by radicals to get across messages today.
