Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs brought a lot of firsts:  the first animated feature film produced in America, first fully produced in color, and it was Walt Disney's first production. It premiered in 1937 and was released nationally by 1938.

The expectations for the film were low.  Disney's wife told him "No one's ever gonna pay a dime to see a dwarf picture."  In fact, it was not a flop--it went on to make four times more money than any other film released that year.

  1. Wow I did not know all of that about Snow White. That is crazy how good it was for being the first movie. Its weird to think this came out soo long ago yet kids still watch it. I love all the disney movies, especially this one!

  2. American Film Institute ranked this as the greatest American animated film of all time. In fact, it even ranks on AFI's 100 greatest films of all time. It is one of two animated films on the list, the second being Disney's Fantasia.
