1930's Radio

On the 21st of September 1939, WJSV in Washington DC did what had never been done previously: managed to record an either Broadcast Day beginning at 6 AM and running until 1 AM. This is incredibly fortunate for us, in that we can now listen to these recordings and experience authentic radio from the past as it actually happened.

There are a number of web resources where you can find links to all 19 hours of the recordings, but your best bet would be to visit archive.org, one of the largest internet resources for old recordings. Not only will you find the entire Broadcast Day (and others from different dates, too), you can find a wealth of Old Time Radio recordings, to give you the experience of what it was like to listen to radio in those days. Remember: this was the single form of media that united everyone in this country in those days. To listen to radio is to listen to what the average man was familiar with.

Enjoy.
